Germany Thrashes Slovakia 6-0 To Qualify For 2026 World Cup

Nick Woltemade scored again as Germany thrashed Slovakia 6-0, sealing top spot in Group A and confirming their place at the 2026 World Cup.
Germany needed at least a draw to guarantee automatic qualification, while a Slovak win would have forced them into a play-off.
The match in Leipzig quickly swung in the hosts’ favour, with Woltemade heading in a powerful cross from Joshua Kimmich early on.
Serge Gnabry then made it 2-0, finishing a precise pass from Leon Goretzka, before Leroy Sane converted a brilliant assist from Florian Wirtz to make it 3-0.
Just before halftime, Sane and Goretzka combined again, with Sane tapping in another cross to give Germany a commanding 4-0 lead at the break.

The second half was less frenetic, but Germany continued to score. Ridle Baku added a fifth, his first international goal since 2021, firing home after Gnabry set him up.
Twelve minutes later, 18-year-old Assan Ouedraogo made an instant impact, scoring in the bottom corner just two minutes after making his senior debut.
The victory highlighted Germany’s attacking strength and defensive solidity, as they kept a fourth consecutive clean sheet.
Slovakia struggled throughout the match and were denied a chance to score early on when goalkeeper Oliver Baumann blocked a close-range effort from David Duris.
With this defeat, Slovakia will now have to navigate the play-offs to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
