Man Arrested After Car Hits Crowd At Liverpool Parade, Over 50 People Injured [Video]

A man has been arrested after a serious incident at the Liverpool Parade that celebrated the city’s Premier League victory.

The celebration turned tragic when a car crashed into a group of people shortly after the parade ended on Water Street in the city center. More than 50 people were injured in the collision.

According to Merseyside Police, a 53-year-old man from West Derby, believed to be the driver, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

He is also being investigated for dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs.

At a press briefing, Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims explained that the car gained access to the restricted parade route by following an ambulance.

The emergency vehicle was attending to a separate medical emergency involving someone suffering a suspected heart attack, and the road had been briefly opened to allow access.

Sims said hospitals across the region treated over 50 people following the incident, and 11 remain hospitalized in stable condition, showing signs of recovery.

Police confirmed that the crash is not being treated as an act of terrorism because there’s no evidence to suggest it was planned, and authorities are not looking for any additional suspects.
