Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has now formally become a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, marking a significant moment in the country’s opposition landscape as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
His registration was completed on Monday, just days after he informed ADC supporters and stakeholders in Adamawa of his decision.
The news was confirmed by Abdul Rasheeth, one of Atiku’s aides, in a statement shared with PUNCH Online.
Images and videos from the event showed Atiku’s convoy entering the area to a lively reception by supporters who drummed, sang, and held placards bearing his picture as they welcomed him.
Atiku, who recently dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), acknowledged the crowd from his vehicle before receiving his ADC membership card.
Shortly after completing the process, the former vice president posted a brief message on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “It’s official. -AA.”

This step formalises his link to the coalition party, which he had earlier endorsed in July as a united platform for opposition leaders such as Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming elections.
Up until now, Atiku and several opposition figures had held off on officially joining the ADC.
His registration is expected to boost the party’s visibility and contribute to shaping the opposition’s strength ahead of 2027.
