I Lost Endorsement Deal For Refusing To Sleep With Company Owner – Tiwa Savage

Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has opened up about one of the major struggles many women still face in the country’s music industry.
During a panel session at Entertainment Week Africa, Tiwa Savage revealed that she has been in situations where influential men tried to use their positions to demand personal favors.
She explained that sexual pressure from powerful figures remains a common barrier for female artistes trying to grow their careers.
According to her, some executives insisted she visit them privately before she could be considered for shows or important opportunities.
Tiwa also recalled a particular incident where she lost a major endorsement deal, saying the company’s co-owner expected her to travel with him to Dubai, and when she declined, the deal was taken away.

Reflecting on the experience, the singer said it became clear that certain people in the industry were more interested in her body than her talent.
“I had been told that if I don’t go and see ‘this chairman’ personally, I would not be put on a show. I lost an endorsement because I refused to go to Dubai with a man who is one of the owners of the company.
“That was when I realised that they don’t value my talent but my body, which I was only flaunting as part of branding. It ended up hurting me because that is all they were seeing,” she said.
