
Police in Ghana have arrested a man after the death of his 13-year-old daughter in the Kobrobite community, located in the Weija area of Accra.
The victim, identified as Celestine Adonteng, was allegedly beaten repeatedly by her father, Isaac Adonteng, before she died from her injuries in their home at Kokrobite.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
According to the authorities, the Weija Divisional Police Command has opened a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
It was gathered that the suspect, a 54-year-old mason, assaulted his daughter with a cane, a metal pipe, and other objects after accusing her of eating food prepared for her younger sibling.
Despite the child suffering serious injuries, the man did not take her to a hospital and instead locked her inside a room.

Police officers visited the home after receiving a report from concerned individuals.
When they arrived, they found the girl unconscious and was rushed to the Police Hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Her remains have been placed in the hospital morgue for preservation and an autopsy.
During a search of the house, officers recovered several items believed to have been used in the assault, including a metal pipe and a cutlass.
In its statement, the Accra Regional Police Command used the incident to caution parents and guardians about the dangers of harsh punishment.
The command stressed that violent discipline is a criminal act and often leads to tragic outcomes.
